Chemical producer Southern Ionics, LLC engaged Advanced Engineering Resources to perform structural engineering services on this industrial adaptive reuse project. AER performed a structural evaluation of an existing structure within a decommissioned industrial facility to determine its suitability to house a new aluminum chloride production process. Upon determining that the structure could be adapted as needed, we designed structural modifications and augmentations required to support and provide access to the new process equipment. In addition to reuse of the existing structure, the project included a new 145 foot by 50 foot bulk storage building and a 1700 square foot boiler building which were designed by AER.
